Two Strong Performers

There’s no doubt that both the Chevy Silverado 1500 and RAM 1500 offer impressive capability with multiple choices of engines. The base model of the Chevy Silverado 1500 is a 2.7L four-cylinder engine compared to the RAM 1500’s 3.6L V6. You might be surprised to discover that the Chevy engine has more horsepower. The biggest difference is 430 lb.-feet of torque for the Silverado compared to 269 lb.-feet for the RAM 1500. Because of the increased capability for the Silverado, this truck has a towing capacity of 9100 pounds compared to 7660 pounds for the RAM. Both models have an eight-speed automatic transmission for smooth handling. Fuel economy is also similar with the top trims of the Silverado 1500 at a slight advantage. Top models for both trucks have turbocharged V6 engines with Chevy pairing it with a ten-speed automatic over the eight-speed for RAM that is continued throughout the line.

Connection, Convenience, and Comfort

The base model of either the Silverado 1500 or RAM 1500 keeps things simple. Both trucks include a basic stereo system with Bluetooth, which can be upgraded as you move up the trims. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard on the Chevy Silverado 1500 but only included on higher trims for the RAM 1500. Both trucks include vinyl seating on the base trim along with power windows and doors. Choose a higher trim from either truck to gain leather seats with power adjustment and heated and cooled front seats. Retain your settings for the driver’s seat with the memory function for either model while heated mirrors with memory are also standard for both at the highest trips.

Feeling Safe

Chevrolet and RAM know the importance of the latest safety features and include them on their trucks. Both models have a backup camera and lane keep assist for the entire line. At the top of the line, both models include a blind spot system and adaptive cruise control as well as remote engine start. The 2026 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 also includes Forward Collision Warning for every trim along with Pedestrian Detection. At the top, a surround view camera is standard for Chevy and optional for RAM.
